Valencia CF and Vicente Esquerdo have reached an agreement to keep the player at the club through to 2024, in a further display of commitment to homegrown talent coming through from the youth ranks.
VCF Media caught up with him to talk about his happiness with the deal, hopes for the future and serving as an inspiration to others making progress in the VCF Academy.
“I'm very happy to be continuing at Valencia CF through to 2024. Like any kid, I dreamed of getting this far. For Valencia CF to help me to make this a reality is something that is also very exciting. I'm very happy about everything,” says the player born in Calpe but part of the club’s setup from an early age.
“I joined at Cadete B level. Back then, this seems like something that is very far away. You see that it is possible, but it seems very difficult -and it is. You have to work very hard to get this far. Valencia CF have helped me a lot. They have taught me everything that I needed to do to get this far.”
Esquerdo is getting an increasing amount of first team opportunities, and is determined to make them count.
“We have to be ready for when the moment comes. I think that I've tried to make the most of it. I think that the most important thing now is working just the same -or even more- for these opportunities that could arise for me. I have to make the most of them.”
“Every Valencia CF player, be it for the second team or the youth teams, who is that step closer to the elite, has to be happy and proud with how the club are doing things right now. They are showing a commitment to young players. They have to see that it is happening; it isn't just talk, it's actually like that -a reality. I'm proud that there are players in the second team who can look at me and some of my colleagues as an example to follow. I've been in that situation and I've looked at other players in the same way,” concluded the recently-renewed young talent.
